The August 26 meeting of the Jackson Inventors Network will feature Norma LaVallee, Jackson County Service Center Director for the Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) and SBDC Business Consultant for Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

To get to market, inventors need to become entrepreneurs! Join us Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson College North Campus to learn more about How to Start Your Own Business. LaVallee will provide information to help attendees assess their abilities to lead and manage a company, consider the risks and feasibility of owning a successful business, as well as how to evaluate market and sales potential for your concept or product. Start-up costs, financing options, and business planning are introduced, along with necessary steps and resources to launch a new venture in Michigan.

Attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the SBDC Guide to Starting and Operating Your Own Business and the Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Resource Guide.

With more than 20 years of expertise in business development, LaVallee offers knowledge and expertise in a wide range of business development resources available to business owners in Michigan.

As the Jackson County Service Center Director for the Michigan Small Business Development Center (MI-SBDC) and SBDC Business Consultant for Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee and Monroe counties, LaVallee works with entrepreneurs and small business owners to help them achieve their goals.

A seasoned entrepreneur and small business owner herself, Ms. LaVallee has conducted hundreds of comprehensive needs assessments to identify opportunities for business growth;  including writing a business plan, sales and marketing strategies, strategic planning, leadership mentoring, succession planning, workforce development, process improvement initiatives, quality improvement, relocation, consolidation, and just as important; referrals to creditable and relevant state and federally funded local resources.

Ms. LaVallee earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Quality Management from Cleary University, with undergraduate work in Marketing and Applied Management. Certifications include MI-SBDC Certified Business Consultant, Certified Business Solutions Professional (CBSP), Lean Office Champion, Solution Selling and ISO 9000 Lead Auditor certification.  Norma is a Dale Carnegie and Plymouth Leadership graduate.
